Publication of Electronic Dissertations on the UB Server

For several years the UB has been offering to doctoral candidates the possibility to publish their dissertation electronically on the internet.

Advantages of electronic publication

  • Your dissertation is immediately accessible to a wide audience.
  • Your dissertation is visible in full text, world wide and free of charge.
  • There are no costs imposed on you.
  • Your dissertation is searchable by search engines on the internet (author and title key words).
  • Long-term archiving is guaranteed by collaboration with the Swiss National Library.
  • The URL serves as a bibliographic reference.

The publication on the UB server is an additional publication type and does not replace the handing over of deposit copies or the publication in a publishing house. The rules for promotion of the faculties are not being altered by the electronic publication on the UB server. (Exception – Doctoral candidates at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences)

All dissertations handed in at the University of Bern are listed in the online catalog IDS Basel Bern. If you submit your dissertation in electronic form, we will add a direct link from the catalog entry to the full text (click here for an example).

How do you proceed? Hand in the signed Declaration of Consent and the CD-ROM as mentioned below (see instructions).
