Digital Services Act

The EU's Digital Services Act (DSA, link: Regulation - 2022/2065 - EN - DSA - EUR-Lex) is fully in force since February 2024 and intends, among other aims,  to make the digital environment safer by defining clear obligations for the providers of very large online platforms (e.g., X, Facebook, YouTube, Google).

Article 40 of the DSA stipulates that researchers must have access to data from very large online platforms to investigate systematic risks to society, such as disinformation or threats to public health. This data access can be requested via platform-specific APIs or the EU Data Access Portal.
