Chocolate, chicory coffee, and health canasters

For the publication of an article on tobacco consumption of the Bernese public at the beginning of the 19th century, head librarian Hans Bloesch counted the print runs of tobacco packaging. Based on these numbers, he made conclusions as to the preferences of the smoking public and the boom of tobacco.

No less interesting for future researchers are the advertisements by Bernese and foreign merchants, price lists, business cards or notices.
