Circus and show posters
In 1824, the English tambour-major Joseph Liebhard performed with 15 drums in Bern. With this same poster, he advertised for his spectacle in Leipzig in 1820. Further tracing of this advert allows for the supposition that this Joseph Liebhard was part of Peter Egenolf’s showman group in Würzburg in 1822.
This drummer’s announcement is part of an extensive collection of showman posters and notices for dance and music events. These publications give invaluable insights into Bernese entertainment culture of the first part of the 19th century.
