Business records, handwriting samples, and the publishing industry

The collection contains a limited number of business records such as commercial letters, supplier directories, and materials lists of the printing company Haller. Three account books for the printers as well as various internal and external handwriting samples have stood the test of time.

Older print samples are handwritten documents containing information about editions, dates or clients. Later on, the printing company Haller used so-called Feuchtzeddel [damp slips] to record information about formats, typesetters, editions and the types of paper. The paper cutter prepared the paper, filled in the damp slip, and passed both to the printer, who dampened and imprinted the paper. One print from the order was stored with the damp slip glued on, as a file copy for accounting.
