Father of Bibliography

Gessner's Bibliotheca Universalis (shelfmark: MUE Hospinian 27) is the first comprehensive bibliography in the actual sense. He wanted to list everything that was printed at that time. Subsequent volumes, known as Pandectae, were planned, but not all of them were published. The title page of the Bibliotheca contains a dedication to Leonhard Hospinian.
