The article quota set by swissuniversities under the Read and Publish agreement with American Chemical Society (ACS) will likely be exhausted by the October 2023.
This means that until the end of 2023, members of the University of Bern as well as affiliated institutions will have to acquire funding themselves for APCs for open access publications in Open Access journals at ACS.
The article quota set by swissuniversities under the Read and Publish agreement with Wiley will likely be exhausted by begin of October 2023.
This means that until the end of 2023, members of the University of Bern as well as affiliated institutions will have to acquire funding themselves for APCs for open access publications in hybrid journals at Wiley.
The quota agreed with Frontiers for open access publications is exhausted. For members of the University of Bern this means that until the end of 2023, they need to find alternative funding to cover the APCs for Open Access publications in Frontiers journals. Financing of APCs via the OA Publication Fund is not possible.
Wiley-Verlag converts further hybrid journals into fully Gold Open Access journals. Articles from members of the University of Bern and affiliated institutions submitted after this date ("Date of Conversion") can no longer be funded via the Read & Publish agreement. These journals are specially marked in the title list and can be found on a special page at Wiley.
Details and further information
The annual article quota for Nature Research Journals under the Read & Publish contract with SpringerNature is exhausted. Therefore, no APC costs can be covered under this agreement until the end of 2023.
There is a new Read & Publish (2023-2025) with the American Chemical Society (ACS). Members of the University of Bern and the PH Bern can participate.
An article quota for hybrid titles of the Nature Research Journals is now also available. This means that around 50-60% of the annual publication volume of these titles can be published free of charge.
The University of Bern and swissuniversities will continue to provide funding to support researchers in publishing in OA in 2023.
The agreement with Frontiers for publications by researchers at the University of Bern was renewed for 2023 as well. Until the Frontiers quota is used up, publications that meet the fund's eligibility criteria will be paid directly by the fund without the need for an application by the authors.
Publication lists from BORIS can be integrated into websites, this applies to personal publication lists, publication lists of institutes, departments and clinics.
In January 2023, the URL for the individual publication list in BORIS has changed. Please adjust the URL to the individual publication lists on your personal websites according to the instructions linked here.
SciFlow makes it easy to write and format scientific texts - whether for a specific journal or as a student paper. SciFlow also offers attractive templates, chat support, webinars and text checking. The University Library of Bern has licensed SciFlow for the entire UniBE campus.
The article quota set by swissuniversities under the read-and-publish contract with Wiley has been exhausted.
Members of the University of Bern and affiliated institutions must pay APCs for OA publications in hybrid journals at Wiley until the end of 2022 from funds to be acquired by themselves.
For all SNSF calls starting from 17 April 2023, including the current Spark call (Deadline 2 May 2023), a data management plan (DMP) is requested for approved grants only. Researchers still have to consider data management when planning their projects and preparing applications, including budgeting.
The DMP remains an integral part of all SNSF projects and provides information on the research data life cycle, which is a key element of good scientific practice. The strategic objectives remain the same: research data must be made freely accessible to researchers and the general public unless they are bound by legal, ethical, copyright, confidentiality, or other clauses.
The Open Science Team at the Bern University Library, UniBE further supports researchers by advising on data management planning and reviewing DMPs.
How to write a successful research data management plan (DMP)? The Open Science Team will be happy to guide you through video modules available via YouTube channel. Contact e-mail: openscience@unibe.ch
The new Data Talks are informal exchange events with short talks by researchers on research data and research data management. Each talk will last 10 minutes, followed by time for discussion. There will also be time for networking with colleagues, so don't miss the apéro after the event!
